Shanghai Montessori Education Academy (SMEA) has been providing Montessori teacher certification courses for Infant Toddler and Early Childhood levels since 2005. In 2024, the Academy experienced a change in ownership and appointed a new director.

We are currently working to address several issues at SMEA. SMEA is on probationary status with the American Montessori Society and The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education. We recognize that documentation and follow-through were neglected, which, combined with the effects of Covid-19, resulted in many adult learners not finishing their certification. With the new management in place, we are reaching out to those who have not completed their certification in recent years to offer support.
